My Head is Dizzy with Spring in the Air.

So I have been away for quite sometime.  I do have a good excuse…(don’t we all).

Robin Egg??

April 4th while trying to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and nature all around me, I had an accident.  My husband and I  put up bird feeders because, although I am highly allergic to feathers and could never have a bird in my house… I love birds, well most  birds.  Cardinals, Blue Jays, Sparrows, Mourning Doves, Redheaded Woodpeckers, Red Breasted Robins…Well these are the birds I have seen feeding in my yard so far.

Ok, back to the accident… For those of you who know me personally, I am a wee bit vertically challenged.  See. the window pane frame was right in my line of sight.  I could not see the birds enjoying the buffet I  placed before them, only the feeder.  So what does a short, (vertically challenged) woman do when she can’t see something or reach something?  Well this one climbs on chairs, stands on the counter, or sometimes yells for my husband or one of the kids to come and reach this or that.

Well on the morning of April 4th, I just got a big pillow and  put it in my recliner, you know like a booster seat at restaurants. That seemed a perfectly logical thing to do.  Well while I was adjusting my self for a morning of bird watching…CRASH, the recliner got top heavy and back I went.  That shouldn’t be too bad right?  One might have even wanted to laugh…Well I moved the recliner before I sat in it so when I went back, and now remember my head is now  higher than the back of the recliner, I cracked my head on the wooden table behind me.

Oh my, did I see stars…..***  I cried, literally.  Luckily my husband was working from home that day.  He watched me for a little while and decided I needed to go to ER, I had a horrible headache.  I also hit my neck.  I kinda hit a vertical line from my ear to the tip top of my neck.  It broke the skin but did not really bleed.

So the ER gives me morphine and Phenergan for my nausea I was having as well.  So of course I felt better, way better… however when I woke the next day the Motrin they prescribed was not working at all, I was very dizzy and uncoordinated.  So my Knight in Shinning Armor, took me to my regular doctor.  He checked me over told my husband and I that I was very, very lucky this could have ended badly.  He gives me major muscle relaxers, and pain pills.

So off home we go…I am felling really good again.  So we had been planning a beach trip for the next day and I did not want the whole family to suffer because I had a bump on my head.  Well I don’t even know how I got to the beach, I don’t remember walking on to the beach, but I know I was at the beach, they showed me pictures!  I don’t remember the ride home.

The next day I get up and start helping my son cook in the kitchen.  This was my older son, the football player, strong boy.  Thank God for strong sons.  I told him I was going to go lie down because I was feeling….out like a light.  I fainted.  Well this worried him, so he called his dad and dad rushed home from church and rushed me to the ER.  More Morphine, more phenergan, and a CT to make sure I did not have a slow bleed.  Oh how scary.

Well, good news, no bleed just a concussion.  They told me I was suffering from post concussion syndrome.  I am just now today feeling like myself again.  I lost 22 days of my life to dizziness, fatigue, major headaches, and memory loss.  now that is crazy to have memory loss it is so scary to have missing parts of your day or life.

So my wonderful husband remedied the situation to avoid further injury while I bird watch.  Now I have this beautiful bird sanctuary outside my bedroom window and I could see everything from my bed while I was recovering.

So how is your Spring Going???????

It has been almost a month since I posted, and I am up to my elbows in paperwork while starting my Counseling business so I thought I would share this. My husband is the Student Ministries Director for this church, our church. Enjoy!

Since the early weeks of Churchspotting one article in particular has attracted long-term, continuous interest.  At least once a week someone arrives at the blog looking for information on relevant Church, a group visited in Churchspotting’s fourth ever article (available here).  Our last encounter with relevant was all the way back in August of 2011.  This week, more than six months later, we return to see what’s changed.

When Churchspotting first visited relevant Church, the group hadn’t yet been an independent congregation for a full month.    Its senior pastor, Matt McGarity, had only recently separated his operation from River Hills Community Church (visited here).  Mcgarity, still relatively fresh from seminary, worked at the RHCC as a youth pastor and outreach minister; relevant began as an auxiliary program to the RHCC, a deliberately ‘contemporary’ service intended to draw in worshippers turned off by more traditional religious services.

It’s been…

Spring in the Air! New life! Roses and flowers! But wait, I’m not ready yet.

I am just sitting here on my porch.  I can here children playing outside, the Rose of Sharon bushes are showing their beautiful newly opened buds.  I am relaxed and calm.  However, I have an undercurrent of nervous excitement.

I am going through the motions and regulations of starting my private practice.  So much to know, so much to learn on the business side.  I am more than ready and prepared to see clients and feel confident in my ability to be a Helper.  Business on the otherhand???

I first have to name my practice.  You would think I would have been already working on this for years…

However, I haven’t.

I am open to suggestions…

Please share your thoughts on names, ones you have seen and it gave you a bad feeling and why?  Ones that you have loved and why.
So really any help would be very appreciated.

Valentine Story, One bed or Two?

Chocolate Butter Cookies

Made with Love for My Loves

I was making chocolate butter valentine cookies for my children when I looked over and saw the most precious site.

I have written about Maggie and Wattson our Miniature Schnauzer dogs who have been married for longer than most humans have. ; ) Well today is Valentine’s Day so I thought I would share a love story.  I  took this picture of  the two of them curled up in the same doggie bed.

puppies, love, marriage

Now each of our three dogs have their own beds but sometimes Wattson will squeeze in to Maggie’s bed.It reminds me of Lucy and Ricky, on the I love Lucy show. Too cute!

I know it's not Valentine yet but I'm full of ...

Love Sign

This is a short story however; it comes with a good lesson for those of us married. One of us needs to take the first step and move towards the other so that we can feel the warmth and love of the other. I hope you have enjoyed my Valentine Love story. As for my Valentine and me…He is working on our car, it died on him a couple of times on the way home and he is in the Wal-Mart Parking lot replacing a battery in his work clothes. Maybe I should cook for him. ? I did not plan anything because I thought we were going out…

Grand Baby, Life Lesson, Meet Kevin!

beautiful daughter

A carefree Life!

A few days ago, I became a virtual grandmother.  My daughter brought home one of those “For Real Babies” issued by the school.  This baby is to give the simulation of being a mom.  Yesterday was her third day to be a “Mommy”.  She is sooo tired of the JOB.  However, there is no, spit up, poopie diapers, or other “real life” situations, such as fever, croup, or medical bills.

The first day, the baby cried so hard and Missy Moo (my daughter) could not get the baby calm.  She was not at home with me, Grammie, because she said, “I can do whatever I want this baby won’t slow me down” famous last words…

Well by the time, she came back home my husband and I heard the door open, then a screeching crying. It was the baby; Missy Moo had tried for 45 minutes in a parking lot to get the baby to calm down with no luck.  Papa, my husband, took the baby as I tried to calm my baby.

Papa was able to calm the baby; Missy Moo, on the other hand, was not so easy to calm.  The baby was crying, she was crying and yelling.  I assured her that this assignment was temporary and she would be ok.  She finally calmed down once the baby stopped crying.

The next day, the back fell out of the baby, the batteries came out, and it “died”.  This gave us a good 20 minutes of silence; Missy Moo was in panic mode once again.   Papa and Big Man (my 16-year-old son) was to the rescue and was able to “fix” the baby. I calmed Missy Moo once again.

My Virtual Grandson "Kevin"

I had a great laugh yesterday.  We were at a fast food restaurant and the “baby” had not made a noise since 5pm.  What a great baby, however it was now 7:30pm and we just sat down to eat.  Missy Moo’s boyfriend was just walking towards us with the food. Wouldn’t you know it, just on cue, “Kevin” the baby, began to cry.  He was hungry.  I tried not to laugh, I really did.  However, I could not help it.   Hehehe!

Missy Moo had to sit there while her food was getting cold to feed the baby.  This took 30 minutes. Her boy friend kept trying to see if he needed to do something, to help in some way, but he did never stopped eating.  He is a great boyfriend and once he was finished eating he did  finish feed the baby and burped him.  I was sure to remind them that “Kevin” was an easy baby even on “his” worst day.  Nothing compares to a real baby.

So, as a mom it was hard not to do everything for Missy Moo and “Kevin” but this was a great lesson for my daughter, and for her boy friend for that matter.

Love, puppy love, happiness

They Think They Know It All!

Here is a real life confession: I cannot wait for grand babies.  I just do not want them until the time is right and the baby’s family is just that… “a family” and not just a random  hook up.

Well, I hope you had as good as a laugh as I did.

Please leave your comments or stories about your experience with a “For Real Baby”.  Thanks again for reading and commenting.

Today, I CHOPPED all of my hair off, and I loved it. I have been contemplating cutting my hair since November 2011. I finally got the nerve to go through with it.

I decided that if I was going to cut my hair, I would do it with purpose.

Growing up, my mother always “made” me have long hair. She told me the Bible says “it is my crown and glory”. Now I do agree with that, however I believe that it is the hairs conditions that would bring Glory to my Lord  not the length.

Every day I would wake up and put my hair in one of those “messy buns”. Now how could that bring Glory to my Lord? It didn’t.

So today I went to Bangz Salon in Gastonia, NC. This place was beautiful and very friendly. I absolutely loved my shoulder massage after my hair color and before my cut. The aroma therapy was nice as well.

The staff was more than happy to help me fulfill my desire to donate my hair to Locks of Love. This made me a happy camper. I have never done this before but will do it again. I had such a sense of satisfaction in helping others.

Well here’s the final product, I am thrilled with my hair. My family is having to get use to it , but they are behind me all the way, since it was for such a good cause.

Simple JOY

According to the definition of JOYis:

the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.

I love what I do for a living! I love being a therapist, counseling and helping people with very personal and deep issues in their life. Now although I love what I do… it is still my job and some days I go to work and it is just that, my job. It is on those humdrum days that I need a pick me up, or maybe I have to look for the blessings in my career path. Those kinds of days are rare for me however, they do happen.
I was feeling one of those days not too long ago but thankfully, I did not have to look very far for my pick me up. 🙂

Counseling (The Office)

Get it? The Office...

It is not every day (well, for me anyway) to go in to the office and see a crate. Now in my world when there is a crate there must be a dog nearby… I never dreamed that a crate could be used for a cat. However, a cat lover in the office informed me that she uses a crate to take her cat places.

My heart dropped.

See I am a very much a dog person, I have three of them. I have never been a cat lover, I think this is directly related the fact that if I am even in a small room and another person has cat hair on their clothes I go in to a horrible allergic reaction. Eyes swell, nose itches, and throat itches and tightens up. The works! This happens to a couple of my sisters and my mom and Gran were both allergic too.

So I keep looking at this small crate and I am hoping it is a small dog or puppy and not a cat! What did my friend pull from the crate?
I saw the cutest little black ball of fur, a PUPPY! He was about 12 inches long and his legs were about 2 inches long. I think he might have weighed a pound. His hair was curly and he had a cowlick on the tiptop of his head. He was the cutest!!! When he wagged his tail, his whole butt went side to side. I love that, it’s like the tail is wagging the dog. His tiny, little face was so black I could hardly see his eyes.

Of course, I ask, “what kind of puppy is it? I needed to know, just in case I needed 😉 one of those kind of puppies.

His momma told me that her puppy is a hybrid of a shitzu and poodle also lovingly referred to as a ShitPoo. Oh my, I don’t think I can own a dog with that name. he he. However, as I write this post, I had to look it up online. I just didn’t think that was a very nice name for such a cute puppy.  I found out that its proper name is Shihpoo. That is not what his “moma said”. I think it might have more fun to say it the other way.

sweetness, puppy, puppy love, gifts
This puppy was a source of JOY for me that day. He was the cutest when he ran across the floor, or tried to bite my foot. The whole place was full of JOY and nurturing love with that little bundle of fluffy, unconditional acceptance in the building. Both the clients and the staff were experiencing the JOY that a dog can bring to one’s life.
Now go give your dog a treat and show him some love. When was the last time you had an unexpected JOY at work? Please share your comments they really mean a lot to me and I really would like to hear back from you!
